Hints - Weight

Weight - Absolute minimum, we are climbing 5000m after all
  • Bivy or small fly. Consider sharing
  • Emergency blanket for groundsheet
  • Sleeping mat - 3/4 size or consider pcs of closed cell or consider none - depending on timings, route and weather f/c.
  • Down sleeping bag - 600g or less capable of 4C. Marmot Atom, Hydrogen or WM Highlite, Summerlite all fit the bill. Start asking around to beg/borrow or steal one.
  • Large daypack - approx. 500g
  • Food - 1.5kg will do it. Carbo load going into it. Consider Gu and Running Gels. Keep it dry and we can drop the billy, cup and utensils. Depending on route a food drop may be possible.
  • Clothing - Won't need a great deal, we are either moving, eating or sleeping
  • Wet gear - make it very light, consider a poncho. If it is a lousy f/c, we will postpone.
  • Water - Wineskin/Bladder a big help. We are potentially looking at three periods of 7-8 hrs between water sources.
  • First Aid - despite the weight, everyone is to carry their own small kit suitable to their own personal requirements.
  • Maps (photocopies) , Compass, GPS, Mobiles, and firelighting gear - Despite weight everyone to carry their own in case of separation.
